1. Agreement and operator
These terms govern access to Bartr's marketplace, messaging, organisation tools, and communal eatery from the effective date above. Before accessing member features, you must agree to these terms. We record the version accepted and the time of acceptance. If you do not agree, do not use member features; you may contact us about account closure.
Bartr is operated by Pratyush Gavali, sole trader, ABN 30 490 757 095, based in Murrumbeena VIC 3163, Australia. This operator is called "Bartr", "we", or "us" below. Email hello@getbartr.com to contact us or arrange postal correspondence; the locality above is not a full postal address.
2. Who may use Bartr
You must be 18 or older to be a Bartr member, including when administering an organisation. Student and club-admin accounts must use a university email address ending in .edu or .edu.au. Store and kitchen accounts may use another address, but must operate on a university campus and require manual organisation approval before they can share food. You must have authority to act for any organisation you represent.
We check eligibility using the date of birth you provide. You must enter your own accurate date; missing or underage dates prevent access to member features. Contact support to correct a recorded date. This is not independent identity verification. Campus-integrated verification is planned for the future and is not currently used.
3. Accounts and verification
- Give accurate, current information and keep your sign-in details secure.
- Use one account for yourself and do not impersonate another person or organisation.
- A club admin remains a student account holder acting for a club. A store account represents the store itself.
- Email verification confirms access to that address, not identity, current enrolment or an organisation's endorsement.
- Keep access to your registered address. Every six months, students and club admins are prompted to enter a new email OTP; stores are exempt. Password sign-in does not reset this interval, and the prompt does not itself revoke existing sessions.
- Organisation approval confirms only that Bartr completed its stated review. It is not an endorsement of every item, statement, or act by that organisation.
- Tell us promptly at hello@getbartr.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Marketplace transactions
Bartr provides listing, offer, review, and messaging tools. Buyers, sellers, renters, lenders, and people swapping goods deal directly with one another. Bartr does not process payment, take possession of goods, set prices, inspect listings, or become a party to the transaction between users.
- Describe an item accurately, including its condition, price, rental terms, and any material defect you know about.
- Do not list goods you do not own or have authority to offer.
- Agree payment, deposits, collection, returns, and rental damage terms clearly with the other person before exchanging anything.
- An offer sent in Bartr is a proposal between users. The parties remain responsible for confirming their final agreement.
5. Eatery reservations and food
Verified campus organisations post surplus food. Reservations are first come, first served, subject to the displayed capacity and a maximum of two reservations per student per Melbourne calendar day, including two from one listing. A reservation expires if it is not collected by its deadline. Releasing it early returns the serving and refunds that day's reservation allowance; letting it expire does not.
Organisations are responsible for complying with food law, handling food safely, and giving accurate ingredient, allergen, storage, preparation, and pickup information. Students must consider their own allergies and dietary needs, ask the organisation if information is unclear, and avoid consuming food they reasonably believe is unsafe.
Store prices are paid directly to the store at pickup. Bartr does not process those payments. End-of-day bags contain changing surplus and therefore cannot promise a particular category, ingredient, or dietary suitability.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use Bartr to:
- break the law, facilitate fraud, threaten or harass someone, or evade an account restriction;
- post stolen, counterfeit, recalled, unsafe, prohibited, or unlawfully supplied goods;
- upload malicious code, probe another person's data, interfere with the service, or automate requests in a way that harms Bartr or its providers;
- misrepresent identity, university status, organisation approval, item condition, food information, or a transaction outcome;
- infringe privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, or publicity rights; or
- send spam or use messages for an unrelated commercial campaign.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of content you submit. You give Bartr a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, and display it only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service and to meet legal obligations. This licence ends when the content is removed from active use, except for records Bartr is entitled or required to retain and copies that remain in another person's legitimate transaction history.
You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit the content and that it is accurate where another person will rely on it. Do not upload private information about someone else without authority.
8. Meeting and collecting safely
- Use a public, campus-appropriate meeting place and tell someone where you are going.
- Inspect goods before paying or handing over property.
- Do not share passwords, verification codes, unnecessary identity documents, or banking credentials.
- Use emergency services where someone is in immediate danger. Bartr's report tool is not an emergency service.
9. Reports and enforcement
Users can report suspected scams, harassment, inappropriate content, misrepresentation, or spam. We may investigate, preserve relevant records, hide or remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or refer a matter to an authority where that response is reasonable for safety, security, legal compliance, or enforcement of these terms.
Except where urgent action is needed to protect people, data, or the service, we will give the affected user a reason and a reasonable opportunity to contact us about the decision. Reports must be made honestly and must not be used to harass another person.
10. Availability and changes to the service
Bartr is an early-stage service and may experience interruptions. We may repair, replace, add, or retire features. Where a planned change materially affects an active reservation or transaction record, we will take reasonable steps to give affected users notice and preserve the information they need to finish or understand it.
11. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what Bartr collects, how it is used and disclosed, where it is processed, and how to request access, correction, or account deletion.
12. Consumer rights and responsibility
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a guarantee, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Any statement elsewhere in these terms is subject to that rule.
Each user is responsible for their own listings, messages, food information, meeting arrangements, and agreements with other users. Bartr remains responsible for the service it supplies and for obligations the law places on the platform operator.
13. Closing or suspending an account
You may stop using Bartr at any time. Automated account deletion is not available yet. To request manual deletion, use Request account deletion in Settings while signed in. Bartr records the authenticated request and gives you a reference. If you cannot sign in, email hello@getbartr.comfrom the address on your account. Bartr may retain safety and transaction records where lawful and necessary, including messages, reports, reviews, and reservation history.
We may suspend or close an account for a serious or repeated breach, fraud, unlawful activity, or an immediate safety or security risk. We will use a proportionate response and provide notice and a review path where it is reasonable and safe to do so.
14. Complaints and disputes
First contact hello@getbartr.comwith the account email, relevant listing or conversation, and the outcome you seek. We will acknowledge the complaint within five business days and aim to provide a substantive response within 30 days. This does not prevent either party from using a regulator, tribunal, court, or other right available under law.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of courts and tribunals with jurisdiction in Victoria. This does not restrict any mandatory consumer protection or your right to bring a complaint or proceeding in another forum available under applicable law.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service or law changes. We will publish the new version and effective date and give reasonable advance notice of a material change. A change will not apply retrospectively to remove an accrued right. If you do not accept a material change, you may stop using Bartr and request account closure before it takes effect.
